THERE’S THE TRUTH, AND THEN THERE’S THE REPUBLICAN TRUTH

AND THIS SURPRISES YOU BECAUSE?

bush_rose_garden1.jpgNow, I’m a simple sort of a feller.  I say whut I mean, and I mean whut I say.  That thar philosophy has served me well for these past 61 years, and I don’t rightly mean tuh change thangs now.  Pity them good ol’ boy in the Republican Party don’t feel the same way!

You see, dear readers, this has been a particularly interesting week in the world of Republican hypocrisy.  From the Northeast to the Midwest to the dessert of Arizona, they lie like rugs and seem to believe that what they are saying is credible.  Or to quote New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, “The right hand doesn’t know what the far right hand is doing.”

In Minnesota, site of one of the most horrific bridge collapses in our country, the Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty, has the temerity to blame the Democrats for the collapse of that bridge.  He, of course, neglects to mention the fact that he was the one who vetoed the bill authorizing funds to repair and upgrade that same bridge.  What’s really scary is that he probably believes that he is correct in his assumption.

Or there’s the New York City Republican City Council member, Dennis Gallagher, who was arraigned on rape charges.  Apparently, he picked up a woman in a bar who innocently asked him for a ride home.  She assumed that since he was a public official, there would be no danger in going with him.  He said he needed to stop at his office and asked her if she would like to see it.  She went up with him and (here’s where the story gets interesting), either, was raped or, if you are to believe the Counsel Member, participated in consensual sex.

OK, now, I am a firm believer in the “Vas You Dere Cholly?” theory of life.  I wasn’t there, so I have no idea what really happened.   Neither does anyone else, other than the two people that were actually in the room.  But what I find truly amazing is the fact that at his arraignment, the Gallagher’s wife was at his side telling anyone who would listen what a wonderful guy her husband is.  Yup, lady, this fine upstanding Irish Catholic elected official is publicly admitting that he cheated on you with another woman, a woman who claims that he actually assaulted her, and you just think everything is hunky dory.  You’ve been hanging out with Republicans so long that their fantasy world has become your reality.  Wake up and smell the coffee.  Just like every other Republican pervert who has been hauled before the bar of justice in the past few years, your hubby is a sanctimonious hypocrite.  No abortion or birth control, but it’s perfectly OK to have an illicit affair, at best, or to rape a woman, at worst. Watta guy!

Then there’s Presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani who has come up with what he claims is a novel plan to provide people with health insurance.  He’s offering people who buy there own coverage a $15,000 tax deduction to offset the cost of their health insurance.  The real problems are;

1.       It is an encouragement for employers to stop providing company benefits

2.       The people who most need health coverage can’t afford to lay out the money for their insurance in the first place and probably don’t need an additional tax deduction either.

3.       It replicates the already discredited proposal made by the Bus Administration.

So, the former mayor thinks that he is proposing something completely different and helpful, when, it only fits that description in the sick world of Republican double speak.

And speaking of Republican double speak, what about Senator John McCain signing on as a co-sponsor of a new immigration bill that totally eliminates the pathway to citizenship that the Senator had claimed was vital to immigration reform.  Oh, I forgot, he’s yet another Republican who believes in the Orwellian premise that truth is lies and lies are truth.

And we must never forget the circle of lies perpetuated by the Department of Defense regarding the “friendly fire” death of former NFL player Corporal Pat Tillman in Afghanistan.  Those lies continue to grow incrementally as people like former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld continue to lie before Congress that they had no knowledge of the coverup regarding Cpl Tillman’s death.  Yeah, and the dog ate my homework. Or as the future Senator from Minnesota, Al Franken might put it, another lie from a lying liar.

Of course, we should be used to this.  We live in a country ruled by a Republican administration that stole the last two presidential elections and took us to war based on a pack of lies.  And even their own guys still can’t get it right.  When Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, tells us that  we are in a conundrum in Iraq from which we cannot successfully emerge, Vice President Cheney responds by telling us that we only need a little more time to win a war that will protect us from the terrorists that attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  Senator Clinton and George Orwell both have the Republicans pegged right.  The right hand truly does not know what the far right hand is doing, and, to them at least, their lies really have become their truths.

What do we want?

Impeachment and conviction!

When do we want them?

Now!

Our children’s future may depend on it.

C’mon, President Pelosi doesn’t sound that bad, now, does it?
