I FIND PEOPLE LIKE THIS ABSOLUTELY REPREHENSIBLE, AND IT FIND THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT THEM TO BE EITHER NAÏVE OR DOWN AND OUT STUPID

A couple of days have passed since my neighbor, Eric, brought the wondrous aroma of Republicans burning in the wind to my attention.  It has been a rather heady experience to watch the Libby verdict, the jurors at that trial stating firmly their belief that Scooter Libby is nothing more than a fall guy for Cheney and Rove, the son of Giuliani publicly announcing his estrangement from his father over the former Mayor’s treatment of the boy’s mother and, of course, all of the perv right wing reverends who just keep popping out of the woodwork.  How absolutely delicious!

And the piece de resistance came delivered to my door this morning with the announcement that former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, was going to reveal to Dr. James Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family, that he had an extramarital affair while persecuting President Bill Clinton for, well, having an extramarital affair.

Frankly, I am sick and tired of holier than thou folks, scoundrels who hide behind their religions, no matter what those religions are, to promote an agenda that applies to everyone but themselves.  These are folks who live by the philosophy of do as I SAY, not as I DO, and they disgust me.

Here were these righteous Christian right wing fools telling us that the President of the United States should be removed from office over an illicit affair, while some of them were out there getting laid behind their own wives backs.  Here was Newt, himself, screwing around, not on his first wife, not even on his second wife, but on his third wife, the one he married after cheating on the one who was in the hospital being treated for cancer.  What a guy!  What an indescribable putz!  (If you don’t know, that’s the Yiddish colloquial word to describe that small part of Mr. Gingrich’s body with which he apparently thinks. i.e. He thinks with his little head, not his big one.)

I find people like this absolutely reprehensible, and I find the people that support them to be either naïve or down and out stupid.

Think about this story of about twenty years ago.  Jimmy Swaggert getting arrested in that Louisiana motel room, after hiring a prostitute to sit there’s naked and watch him masturbate.  A few days later, there’s old Brother Jimmy up there on the pulpit crying his flippin’ eyes out and begging for G-d’s forgiveness. 

Or that’s what he would have us all believe.

What he was really crying about was getting the schmucks who attend his weekly sessions to forget that he was some sort of a royal hypocrite and continue dropping their money in his buckets every week.  He was concerned that his little folly would end the cash flow that kept his limos and mansions solvent.

And let’s not forget the recent escapades of Pastor Ted Haggard.   What a piece of detritus he has turned out to be.  There he was, the Evangelical Bible thumper, the leader of Jesus Camp, having a long-term affair with a gay prostitute.  To me, that’s not really a problem.  If you are gay, you are gay.  Do whatever comes with that territory.  It’s none of my business.

But Pastor Ted is an altogether different story.  Pastor Ted has been the biggest gay basher in the Evangelical movement.  Pastor Ted, apparently, is also an amazing example of the wonders of aversion therapy.  After only three weeks of therapy, Pastor Ted has become straight again.  Actually, Pastor Ted has just gone one up on Brother Jimmy and convinced those poor fools that attend his church and watch him on TV that they should just keep on keepin’ on and send their hard earned dollars in so that he can buy his next Bentley. 

As I have repeatedly said, I am not Anti-Christian.  I am Anti-Newt, Jimmy, Ted and the countless others out there who use religion to make money, gain political power or both.  I hate people who take advantage of the insecurities of others, and that’s exactly what these people do.  They take unsophisticated folks who are scared of others who are different, and they play upon those fears until a level of hate develops that suits their personal needs.

The two preachers did it to gain power and money.

And Newt is doing it to convince others to support his political aspirations, that vast group of unsophisticated people who consistently vote against their own best interests in order to save folks who do not need saving.

People like this often rail against psychology and psychologists, while they expertly psychologically manipulate their flocks. 

Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that the most orthodox religions often provide the perfect hiding place for scoundrels.  Whether they are child molesters or self- hating gay people, you can often find them preaching against those things that they, themselves, do.

Jimmy Swaggert preached against the sin of masturbation and was found pleasuring himself in front of a prostitute.  Ted Haggard hated gays, only to be discovered having an affair with a gay prostitute.

And Newt Gingrich, the man who would be President, attempted to drive a sitting President from office for having an illicit affair, while he was doing the dirty on the side with a woman other than his wife.  He wasn’t any better than Bill Clinton, or Rudy Giuliani, for that matter.  He just tried to claim he was.

So, in order to make himself look like that holier than thou guy who should be the leader of the free world, what does Newt do?  As I said earlier, he appears on the radio program hosted by James Dobson, a notorious gay basher and prude, a man who supported the Gingrich persecution of Bill Clinton because of his high moral standards.  That’s where the Newt chose to do his personal mea culpa.  That’s where he expects to find yet another group of fools to forgive the repentant sinner and take him back into their flock, where he can once again lead them while continuing to sin behind their backs.

They say that one can only be abused if they allow themselves to be abused.  Apparently, these folks just love being abused.
